What's The OC Differance?

It’s Not Just A Sugar Scrub….

Let’s Chat About Our Sugar Scrub

Our sugar Scrub is made with the following ingredients: Sucrose, Paraffinum Liquidum, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polysorbate-20, Cera Alba, Emulsifying Wax, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearic Acid, Parfume (Optional), Colour (Optional)

Manufactured with refined sugar, highly refined cosmetic mineral oil, Avocado oil and sustained palm oil, this sugar scrub is designed to exfoliate and buff away dead skin, while leaving your skin hydrated, conditioned and with a bright glow. In 2020 we changed the formula, and removed the bee’s wax and replaced it with emulsifying wax to ensure our best selling product was now classified as vegan friendly, yet with the same skin conditioning properties and effects.

How does this product work?

This product is far more than just a simple mix of a few ingredients, this product consumes a large amount of time and caution when mixing the components. Unlike other sugar scrubs that leave you feeling sticky. This product uses refined cosmetic grade mineral oil (Yeahh it’s totally safe, read the facts about it here https://cosmeticlabscanada.com/whats-the-buzz-about-mineral-oil-you-ask/):  Mineral oil is used specifically in this formula for 2 reasons

1) to provide glide so the sugar is not in direct contact with the skin, decreasing the damaging effects on the dermis layer allowing the sugar to gently glide over the dermis layer, buffing away dead skin with little effort.
2) mineral oil is used to draw water into the dermis to provide maximum hydration (Check out the article above to have a better understanding on how it works)

We then mix cold pressed Avocado oil which is an oil designed to absorb extremely fast, check out this great article on this super amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory oil here Health Line.

The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents in avocado oil help your skin stay smooth, strong, and elastic. You can buy avocado oil in any health or grocery store and       use it to:

  • calm itchy skin
  • heal chapped skin
  • replenish dry skin
  • hydrate and moisturize skin
  • shield skin from ultraviolet radiation
  • protect against skin damage

It is crucial that our lab measures the exact temperature when combining the oils into this formula that the oils are heated separately below the boiling point of each oil.  We then blend the oils together to ensure not to decrease the holistic properties of each oil. Once the oils are combined we drop the temperature and add the emulsifying wax (YES, we removed the bee’s wax for a vegan friendly product) and continue to mix this ingredient deck for approximately 35 minutes ensuring our oils are blended with the exact consistency required.

It’s time for the magic… Once our blend cools down, we then take the sugar and introduce it slowly into the mixture of oil and wax allowing the sugar too absorb the oil, without melting the sugar into a liquid. This procedure takes time and done at a very specific temperature and speed to ensure maximum absorption while keeping the grain of sugar intact. This product will be under constant movement for over an hour to ensure each grain of sugar is separated and coated grain by grain. The final process will cause the  oil to be absorbed into the sugar while the emulsifying wax can not be absorbed into the sugar grain, which then leaves a  coating each grain of sugar locking in the moisture making it different then any other sugar scrub on the market today.

When our spa scrub is applied to your skin, the first thing you notice is it is not like a traditionally oily sugar scrub right? It’s thicker, less oil in the jar, because it is all within the sugar and thanks to science this consistency is what does the trick. When the product is applied to the palm of your hand and buffed onto your skin, the emulsifying wax melts with core body heat and the friction, allowing the oils to release into the skin while the sugar dissolves. We advise our clients to keep buffing until no further grain is felt exfoliating the skin to ensure maximum absorption of the oils within the sugar. The cosmetic grade mineral oil, avocado oil and emulsifying wax (which binds water and oil together, increasing the speed of absorption of oil/ water to enter the dermis hydrating new cell growth. The emulsifying wax when dried locks in the moisture into the skin while  creating an ultimate barrier to prevent cell dehydration, while keeping your skin with that radiant fresh glow..
